Especially at this late stage in the year (I don't remember what it's like to not be tired), it was a great boost to hear someone speak who just really exudes love and passion for what they do. Another thing that was good to hear was Marcus' constant reminding us that he's been doing this for 20 years. Great things, or even just really good things, don't happen overnight, they are a continually evolving product of time and effort.

Big Heads: Marcus Oakley
This was really exciting for me, as I'm a big fan of Marcus' work. I first got into him because of his Beach Boys portraits, but it was wicked to hear him talk about how his practice has evolved over time. I especially love his landscapes, like the ones from the Lake District and the Isle of Mull. I like drawing landscapes/plants etc, so it;s always helpful to head words of wisdom from someone who draws the same sort of things, but with a very definite visual signature.
